The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) is shocked at reports that the security staff of Spice Jet strip searched their cabin crew at Chennai, stripping them naked. Even the sanitary pads of some crew members who were menstruating was removed. According to NDTV, the management insists that this was necessary because they had detected a few cases of pilferage. Any allegations has to be investigated according to the norms of ‘Natural Justice’ and SOP. The women crew members had to undergo an embarrassing and humiliating body search. They complained that they were touched inappropriately making them very uncomfortable.

AIDWA strongly condemns the way the women crew members were treated as criminals violating their dignity and self-respect. AIDWA demands 1) that the management of Spice Jet stops this humiliating practice forthwith and tender an unconditional apology; 2) that the management take action against the officials responsible for this misdemeanor.
