The public outcry in the country and demand for resignation by organisations like AIDWA regarding the sexual harassment charges against him has forced Mr M.J. Akbar to resign from his position as Minister of State for External Affairs on the evening of October 17, 2018.

AIDWA salutes all the women who stood their ground in face of a state power that has justified and endorsed the predatory behaviour of Mr M J Akbar. It calls upon the government to provide protection and legal aid to the women so that this first step towards justice can reach its logical end. AIDWA also calls upon the government to ensure that a free and fair investigation takes place in these cases and that Mr Akbar is prevented from using his political and social influence to impede a just trial and intimidate the complainants. AIDWA calls upon all its members to keep up the public pressure on authorities so that a due process of law is followed to address all such cases of sexual harassment.
