The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) vehemently condemns the heinous sexual assault of a minor girl by Bandi Sai Bhagirath, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay and demands his immediate arrest. Despite an FIR being registered under the POCSO Act on May 9, 2026, in Medchal district, Telangana, Bhagirath has not been arrested till date by the Police. This delay, caused by political pressure and the Central Government’s protection of the accused, is a blatant violation of the law and a betrayal of justice. Police sources claim Bhagirath is “missing”, yet he has managed to file a bail petition in the High Court—raising serious doubts about the State Government’s attitude and police inaction. Such manipulation of the legal process is unacceptable and undermines the very spirit of the POCSO Act, which mandates urgent and impartial action to protect children and deliver swift justice.

The BJP Government’s hypocrisy in shielding perpetrators while proclaiming “Beti Bachao” is a grave misuse of political power and laws. AIDWA reiterates that the safety and security of girl children is of paramount importance, and any ruling dispensation is bound by law to ensure their protection. The urgent necessity of swift action under the POCSO Act must be upheld without delay, guaranteeing justice, dignity, and deterrence against such heinous crimes.

AIDWA demands the immediate arrest of Bhagirath without further delay and exemplary punishment under the POCSO Act to ensure deterrence and justice, a transparent and time-bound investigation that prioritizes the survivor’s dignity and protection, and the resignation of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay from the Cabinet to ensure impartial proceedings and accountability.
