AIDWA demands - Stop police brutality on peaceful protests

The All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) strongly condemns the police brutality on a peaceful march of Jamia students to Parliament against the CAA-NRC-NPR. Eyewitness accounts and coverage exposes their brutality. More than 30 students were injured and taken for treatment. AIDWA is extremely appalled at the way male policemen targeted women protesters. Accounts of women victims show that these male police personnel targeted women's private parts and hit them below the belt so that no one could see the assault. It is reported that about 10 women were taken to hospital because of such heinous acts.

AIDWA demands that all policemen responsible for such an illegal lathicharge be immediately booked and an independent probe be ordered. It also demands strict action against male policemen who brutally assaulted women.

It must be noted that this is the second instance of targeting of Jamia students in last of couple of months. This is a result of the collusion of the police with the right wing BJP government and its absolute intolerance of legitimate peaceful protest.

AIDWA  calls upon all its units to protest against the illegal actions of the Delhi Police and its political masters.
