AIDWA is strongly opposing the recent observations made by the Supreme Court of India regarding menstrual leave for working women. By suggesting that such a policy could discourage the hiring of women or hinder industrial growth, the Court has unfortunately reinforced patriarchal prejudices that treat women’s biological realities as obstacles rather than as natural aspects of a diverse workforce. Such a perspective prioritizes corporate productivity over the fundamental health and dignity of women, effectively invisibilizing the physical challenges many face. AIDWA asserts that true equality in the workplace requires recognizing and accommodating specific needs, rather than forcing women to suffer in silence to fit a male-centric professional model. We demand that the right to menstrual leave be formally integrated into labor regulations as a matter of workers' rights and gender justice, ensuring that women can participate in the economy with dignity and without compromising their well-being.
