    The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) is deeply concerned about the advance bail given by the High Court in Karnataka in a rape caseafter the Session had rejected it.Thismeans that the accused was not even interrogated in police custody before being released in the extremely serious crime of rape.

  • Statement on Acquittal of Accused in Honour Crime by Madras High Court

    The All India Democratic Women's Association is absolutely shocked at the Madras High Court's judgement on the appeal regarding the honour killing of UdumalaiSankar, Tamilnadu acquitting the main accused.  It is to be recalled that Kausalya, who belongs to the socially dominant BC (Thevar) community, had married Shankar, a Dalit youth of Udumalpet in Tirupur district, in 2015. On March 13, 2016, the couple was brutally attacked by a three-member gang near Udumalpet town bus stand.

    The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) welcomes the granting of bail to SafooraZargar by the Delhi High Court today. SafooraZargar, an M. Phil student at Jamia University was arrested under the draconian UAPA and was in jail for more than two months. She is five months pregnant. 
    AIDWA hopes that all academicians, human rights activists, students and youth defending the secular, democratic principles of our nation and our Constitution, who have been wrongly charged and confined by the police are given bail at the earliest and justice will prevail.

     The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) strongly opposes theamendments to the Essential Commodities Act (ECA) removing commodities like cereals, pulses, oilseeds, edible oils, onion and potatoes from the list of essential commoditiesand two more ordinances regarding agricultureapproved by the Union Cabinet.The amendments remove all regulations and controls on pricing and availability of essential items benefitting private players and agribusinesses, thereby adversely affecting the food security of our country.

    We, the undersigned women’s organisations express strong concern and register our protest against the violations of civil liberties guaranteed by the Constitution, by the Narendra Modi-led Union government and otherstate governments led by the BJP. Recent developments show that the government has been targeting intellectuals and activists as well as prominent journalists who have been questioning the government’s faulty policies.This is a serious attack ontheir democratic, civil and legal rights. FIRs, arrests, imprisonment without evidence have become the new norm.

    The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) expresses its deep disappointment with the Government of India’s inadequate and irresponsible strategy, unveiled by the Prime Minister in his address today, to fight the fast spreading COVID 19 pandemic. The government has extended the All India lockdown period till May 3, 2020 (with some exceptions to industry after April 20), without providing any further economic package to alleviate the miseries and distress of the people.
